Ammar Filmfest screens documentary on Bahraini uprising

Ammar Popular Film Festival screens a documentary on the Bahraini uprising of 2011.

Ammar Popular Film Festival has screened a documentary on the Bahraini uprising of 2011.

An uprising began in Bahrain on February 11, 2011. Since then, anti-regime protests have been held in the Persian Gulf kingdom on an almost daily basis.

Directed by Kazim Shamsollahi, ‘Bahrain (Bahrain’s Uprising)’ addresses the root causes of the revolution and the future of the protest movements in the kingdom.

The 9th edition of Ammar Popular Film Festival kicked off in Tehran on December 30, 2018 and will run until January 10.

The festival goes against the promotion of “individualism and extreme enjoyment without caring about the society's troubles and other human suppression,” the event’s official website noted.

The festival aims “to raise real awareness and responsibility among the general public,” the website said, adding that the event’s mission is to create an atmosphere in which independent filmmakers and thinkers can gather together.
